Abstract

Islanding is the major challenge of grid connected Distributed Generation (DG). The islanding affects the network if the DG tries to feed the load attached after detached from the grid. From IEEE 1547 DG specifications the islanding must be identified in two seconds. In this article, a new passive islanding recognition approach is given with Rate of change of Positive Sequence Impedance. The suggested approach separates the islanding and non islanding cases efficiently at various power mismatches and detects the balanced islanding within 20ms and has no power quality issues. The test system performance is evaluated on Matlab/ Simulink 2019b environment.
